Sawyer had his 4 month checkup on Friday. Since Jeremy was in Austin, Lolly came with us - I knew I'd need moral support during the shots! He was great at the appointment and loved all the attention. He showed off standing up (assisted of course) and holding his head up during tummy time. He weighed 14 pounds, 1 ounce (40th percentile) and was 25 inches long (50th percentile). His head was also in the 50th percentile. So basically he's totally average - in measurements only, he's my little all star! He did well for getting his vaccinations (2 shots and one liquid). It was close to feeding time so unfortunately he was already fussy when they came to give his shots, but I guess he was going to cry either way. Similar to his 2 month shots, he cried but quieted down when we walked out of the office (because he likes looking around) and fell fast asleep in the car. He seemed fine once we got home, and Lolly kept him while I went to my eye appointment. When I got back it seemed he was having a reaction to the shots. Lolly and Pops said he was nearly inconsolable for 30 or so minutes and he didn't have a fever but right around the shots on both legs was all red, so we gave him baby Tylenol and we cuddled waiting for it to work. 15 minutes later he was happily dozing and shortly after that woke up completely happy and content! Next time I'm just giving him Tylenol right after the appointment. That little cry is just too sad!
Other exciting news from the appointment was he got to start on rice cereal. We started Saturday morning and he was less than thrilled. Sure enough, as with anything new, 5 days into it he's really starting to get the hang of it. He doesn't seem overly thrilled with the taste, but I can tell he's getting the idea with opening his mouth around the spoon and chewing. I tell him all the time how proud I am! I can't imagine how excited I'll be when he does something totally monumental like walks! Ha!
He's also started making this hysterical face lately. It started when I would kiss his cheeks, he'd open his mouth wide and smile. Now he's doing a much more exaggerated version when he's happy or excited or sees something cool or someone he likes. He does it to me, the dogs, the fan, reflections in the mirror, light fixtures, the dogs, our couch cushions, his spoon, pretty ladies on the tv, his Mimi and Uncle Tyler. It's just so funny, he looks so goofy! Here are a few I've caught on camera:
