3 & 4 Months

My little bitty baby is 4 months old today! It's hard to believe - I feel like it's been much longer. I am so enjoying being home with Sawyer right now, it's worked out well for me to have some indefinite stay-at-home time. He is just so cute and does something new and different every day. We sure miss Jeremy during the week but thankfully we have iPhones so we can Face Time and catch S's fun tricks on video so dad doesn't miss too much. I missed his 3-month post (I believe we were in Austin at the time), so I'll just be combining his third and fourth months here.

What's SHH up to a 4 months?
(I'm going to try to be more organized here, like my friend Ashley! :))

Eating: S is eating between 6 and 7 ounces each bottle, sometimes less if he's feeling stubborn or too excited to eat. As has always been the case, he is a lazy, slow eater mostly. But he's cute and I don't mind the quiet time sitting with him while he drinks his bottle. We're still using that special Alimentum formula, but I'll be interested to see if the doctor thinks we can switch to something else and what he recommends. I don't use Mylanta in every bottle, but I do use some when I feel his reflux is particularly worse than normal. It seems in the past couple months reflux is not as big of an issue as spit up is. Some days it's not so bad, and some days it seems like we go through hundreds of bibs and burp cloths.
---
Sleeping: S is still a great sleeper! He goes down between 8 and 9pm typically and sleeps 11 or 12 hours. Lately he's taken to waking up and fussing between 4 and 6am, but I can tell it's not a real awake cry, so I can go in, put his pacifier back in his mouth, and he falls back asleep almost immediately. I know he's really awake in the mornings because he sweetly and patiently babbles in his crib and gives me time to get up, brush my teeth, feed the dogs, warm his bottle and sometimes even make a cup of coffee. I appreciate this! It makes my mornings much happier! When I finally go get him he breaks into the biggest smile when he sees me. It melts my heart! Definitely one of my favorite times of day. I still swaddle him at night, and I don't know if it's more for me or him. It's just something I tried when he was teeny tiny and it worked then, and I'm too scared to stop now. One night I left him with one arm unswaddled, since he loves chewing on his fingers so much, but he just flails about so much when he sleeps he kept stirring, so I just swaddled that arm back up. I guess I need to stop soon before he starts to roll...I am scared for that night!
---
Schedule: S is normally on a great schedule, or it works for us anyway. He sleeps about 12 hours then has 5 bottles, one every 3 hours usually (for example, 8am, 11am, 2pm, 5pm and 8pm). He'll eat, play for an hour or hour and a half, fuss a little then nap, then wake up for a little bit before it's time to eat again. The naps aren't long, maybe 30 minutes, and they're rarely in his crib - normally in someone's arms or in the car. But it hasn't affected his night sleeping in his crib so I don't mind. And sometimes he does nap in his bouncy chair or most recently in his swing. He gave me a particularly difficult 2 days last week where he got all off on his schedule and it was just a wild guess as to whether he was hungry, sleepy or just plain fussy. But the sliver lining was that I tried him in his swing again, which he has always hated, and he liked it so much he took 3 really good naps in it one day! What a blessing.

Diapers: He's been wearing size 2 diapers, which are still working. We probably aren't too far away from 3's though. I got some special nighttime dry max diapers, not that he had a problem going all night before, but I suppose they don't hurt. For some reason, I swear, the nighttime size 2's are smaller than normal size 2's, so I'm using the rest of those then going up to 3's.
---
Clothes: I moved S up to 9 month size pj's for the length - 6 months got way too tight in the leggies. It seems in the past 2 months he quickly went from 0-3 month clothes to 3-6 month, which he can still wear, and now I even have him in some 6 month and 9 month outfits and they fit fine. It's opened up a lot of clothing options we'd had stashed away, so I'm trying to get as much as I can out of these cute summer outfits.
---
New tricks: S has developed some new tricks and habits in the past 2 months! He's found his toes and now he won't stop grabbing them. He loves to suck and chew on his fingers all the time, probably more than he likes his pacifier. Just recently when he was laying on his back grabbing at his toes he started rolling to his left side, and he was pretty close to rolling over! Once he can figure out what to do with that one arm underneath him he'll be a rolling kiddo. He's holding his head up really well and much prefers to be standing in your lap or held up on your shoulder so he can see what's going on, as opposed to being held like a little baby anymore. He's very chatty sometimes, talking up a storm to his animal friends or to his best friend, Mr. Fan. I still can't say he really started laughing, but he chuckles and squeals sometimes, resembling a laugh. Lately when I tickle him he opens his mouth really wide, turns his head and grunts, which sort of seems like his version of a laugh for now. When I lean in to give him kisses (which is about 90% of how I spend my day) he opens his mouth really wide and smiles - I love at least getting a reaction out of kissing him! The TV is definitely catching his eye these days - I used to think it was the colors, but I've caught him smiling at people when they do close ups (specifically Megyn Kelly on FoxNews and Bethenney on Bravo).

Mullet Watch: Still in existence. I honestly can't tell if it's thinning out or filling out. Only time will tell.
---
Favorites right now: Swing (it either is or isn't - we are black and white on this issue!). Bumbo seat. Hanging out in the Baby Bjorn facing out while I fold clothes or do other chores. Playing on the play mat/gym thing. Falling asleep while rocking in the glider and singing lullabies. Fans, fingers and feet. Baths. Anyone singing "If You're Happy and You Know It." Starting to like reading books - apparently more at your Lolly's than with mommy!

We go to the doctor on Friday, and I'm excited to see how much my baby weighs (the scale trick at home said 14-15 lbs, we'll see) and if we have rice cereal in our future. I'll update with his stats then.

Fitting in his onesie from Aunt Amanda:

I found this pj outfit in his closet and remembered he had a matching hat for it, which we tried on. I think he looks more like a thug with the hat, but still a cutie. Then he peed through the outfit and onto me.

Lolly bought this outfit for Sawyer before he was born, back in November at the Nutcracker Market. It has little guitars on it. I can't believe he can fit into it now!

  1. Ha - so glad someone thinks I am organized! :) Your Sawyer is too cute. I feel like he and Luke are long lost best friends. We need to have them play again before you move!
