Sawyer is 5 months old today! It still sounds little to me, but he's acting like such a big boy these days!
What's SHH up to at 5 months?

Eating: Oh, lordy, our schedule is so off these days. He's great about eating his rice cereal, but it's been difficult for me to figure out how much formula he needs and when he needs to nap. So our very perfect 6-7 ounces every 3 hours schedule is out the window. I feed him a bowl of cereal and a bottle in the morning, and the same in the evening. A handful of other bottles during the day with varying amounts of formula. Today for lunch we celebrated his birthday with his first veggies! I did some research and hemmed and hawed over what to start him on, and went with squash - easy to digest and better than peas but not a sweet fruit. I wasn't anticipating him loving it, it took a few days with rice cereal, but he loved it! He ate very quickly (a feat for this lazy eater) and ended up eating the entire container! I was so excited. Same tonight for dinner - he scarfed down a bowl of squash, a bowl of rice cereal and a bottle. So it's a weird mix of happiness that he's enjoying new foods but irritation I can't get a schedule down for us.

Sleeping: Well, again, some changes in this area. He's been doing a better job of sleeping through the night completely, with less and less 5am screaming fits (though those were easily solved with a pacifier usually). So that's been nice. We're still working on the best place for him to sleep where we're staying - he had been sleeping in the room with us, but it got pretty bright and it's not easy sharing a room, so we moved him to the small study next door to us. That seemed okay, but there are still large windows and a lack of air flow almost completely, so it got too warm for napping during the day anyway. So we moved him to the darkest place - the walk-in closet in our room. When we got back to Austin from moving all our stuff he got on this not fun schedule of being up until 10 or 11 but still waking up at7:30, so I was exhausted! Just in the past few days we've been doing better and better at going down earlier - maybe 8 or 8:30, and sleeping until 7:30 or 8. That schedule I will take! Napping is a whole other issue...he had just been napping in our arms, which is a horrible habit! I'd been really good about putting him down in his crib lately, but still he's only napping maybe 30 minutes and then he's up again. I know I shouldn't compare...but I feel like when looking at other baby's schedules online they're napping 1-2 hours twice a day. He's a good sport when I need to get stuff done during the day, like shower or laundry or clean the kitchen or cook, so I don't rely on his naps, it would just be nice to have a small break during the day I could count on. Today and a couple days ago he did nap for 1-2 hours...in my arms though! I'm hoping once we have a good feeding schedule worked out the naps will follow. And at least he's sleeping through the night - I suppose it could be worse!

Diapers: Still in size 2's for regular and nighttime diapers. I think we've got a bit longer in those!
---
Clothes: Still in 9 month pj's for the length. It probably won't be long before we have to move up again! He can wear some 3-6 month clothes still but they're definitely getting tighter. Now I'm mostly putting him in 6-9 or 6-12 month things. Since he was born in the spring it's so weird to think about buying him a cold-weather wardrobe! I'm excited - I love any excuse to shop! I also just realized (duh) I get to buy him a baby Halloween costume! I'm already scoping some out!

New tricks: Eating food like a big boy, opening his mouth when he sees the spoon. Rolling over both back to tummy and tummy to back. Just recently he's starting to be really grabby! He knocked over his dad's Whataburger cup the other night, and he's started to grab my face (or mouth or nose) during the day. It's so cute! I take it as a little baby hug from him. He HAS laughed - for Aunt Amanda. Oh man, she is funny! I got him to laugh a little today by blowing kisses at him. You just have to catch him in the right mood at the right moment.

Favorites: Gina and Georgina the giraffes on his swing and exersaucer (I named them). If You're Happy and You Know It, the Itsy Bitsy Spider, and a Sunday school song that goes "I want to sit, sit, sit/I want to stand, stand, stand..." Especially the verse in that last song with the word 'zoom' in it. The word 'zoom' is hilarious! Bottles & bowls of food.

He's just so fun and sweet - I love spending my days with him! I can't believe how much has changed in just a month, and I feel like now he'll start changing even quicker. I'm excited and miss my tiny newborn all at the same time!
He's the cutest little boy ever!! AND I miss him!
