We had a really fun but really busy last weekend. We might have pushed it a little with a 5-week-old, but it was still fun! As a little background, last week Sawyer seemed extra fussy and screamed more when he drinking his bottles and would also wake up just screaming, which isn't normal for him. So we took him to the doctor last Thursday because I was thinking he might be suffering from acid reflux. Indeed, our pediatrician said it did sound like it could be reflux and didn't think it was colic based on him screaming more frequently day and night, especially during feedings. We left with 2 formulas to try (Similac Alimentum and Enfamil Nutramigen) and to give him some Mylanta before each feeding. We had plans over the weekend to go to Austin and we wanted him feeling well!
Can I just say, packing for 2 adults and a new baby is a lot of work?? We had plans to leave mid-afternoon on Friday and I packed all night Thursday night until Sawyer's 3am feeding. Pack-n-play, sheets, towels, enough onesies and outfits in case he had massive blowouts, not to mention diapers, wipes, formula, bottles, distilled water jugs...it was a lot. Plus we had several different events to attend over the weekend, so we had a lot of clothes to bring anyway. But I was super organized and got it done! Another big change in having a child...we woke up Friday morning and I realized (stupidly) we never made arrangements for our dogs! We had stopped boarding them because it's expensive, so normally Jeremy's parents or my mom and Tyler come take care of them if we're gone...but this time Jeremy's parents were traveling with us as babysitters and my mom was going to Austin as well. Ooops! Luckily our vet boards dogs and had room for ours, so Jeremy rushed them over before we left.
The drive to Austin with a baby in tow was definitely not 2.5 hours, but we made it in about 4 hours with 2 stops, 1 for us to eat and one for Sawyer to. We had just enough time to change and hand off the baby to super duper sweet and generous Lolly and Pops and we headed to dinner downtown at III Forks with an industry colleague of Jeremy's and his wife. We had a blast at dinner and it was fun to do something adult like enjoy a steak dinner and a glass of Cabernet! After dinner, since we were so close by, we stopped at the Driskill Hotel to see our friend Jenn perform with her band, the Carper Family. They are an all girl Texas country, bluegrassy group and they had quite the crowd! They took a short break so we got to talk to Jenn and take pictures with her.
{Fun fact: Jenn introduced Jeremy and me back in 2002, before we started dating in 2004. I only met her a few weeks before when she went to prom with our friend Chris. And we got engaged at the Driskill!}
Saturday we met the Ryans and their friends at a park to celebrate Porter's first birthday! It was such a pretty day and we had fun seeing everyone, even if it wasn't for long and Sawyer was a little fussy. Porter is awesome and he makes me really excited to have a one-year-old in 10 months!
Saturday night Lolly and Pops took Sawyer again so we could go to the wedding of our friends Travis and Morgan at Thurman's Mansion, which is basically the Salt Lick's event venue. It was GORGEOUS! Beautiful weather, beautiful setting, and beautiful bride! The ceremony was outside overlooking a hill country vineyard. After the ceremony they served drinks on the porch and had games set up on the lawn. How fun is that?? Dinner was served inside and it was the famous Salt Lick bbq. There were so many cool, personal touches from the candy bar, to their childhood pictures hanging on the porch, to the personalized koozies and the gourmet cupcakes instead of a traditional wedding cake. I grew up with Travis and a couple other guys since we were little bitty and I wouldn't miss any of their weddings for the world - I was so thrilled to witness Travis marrying Morgan. Morgan is so great, and great for Travis, and I'm so proud of Travis for all he has accomplished and who he has become (the same goes for Adam and Jason also!). We had a blast enjoying drinks and bbq with friends from high school! We left a little early (very limited sleep caught up with us!) but we were so glad to have been included in their festivities.
I didn't get pictures of us all dressed up, or of the bride and groom, but I did get a few of the lovely location:
The lawn games
We got back and Sawyer was pretty much inconsolable. Since we were staying in a hotel and trying to be mindful of his noise level, Jeremy even ran to get the other formula recommended by our doctor, thinking he wasn't liking the one I packed. He was okay the rest of the night but we hightailed it home Sunday morning just because it's a lot easier to have a fussy baby at home than out of town! Even with his fussiness, we had a really fun weekend thanks to Lolly and Pops who stayed in a hotel room all weekend for us!
Traveling gets easier! I'm impressed y'all made a trip with a 5 week old. I'll never forget our first hotel experience with L...screamed ALL night and we paced the hotel room.
