I am mildly obsessed with finding THE perfect gift. Starting around Halloween I feel this internal itch to start bookmarking pages or scouring Etsy for awesome finds, or this year, to pin good gifts like crazy! So here's my version of a holiday gift guide - just a normal girl, online shopping while working, trying to find free shipping. My goal this year is to be completely finished shopping (probably not wrapping!) by December 17 - when we'll celebrate with my dad and his family.
So for the first edition of my gift guide... gifts for BOYS!
I have several different men I buy for: Sawyer - age 1.5; Tyler, my brother - age 13; Alexander, my step-brother - age 16; Jeremy - age 30-something; Josh, my brother-in-law - age 30-something; my father-in-law and my dad; and PeePaw, Jeremy's grandpa (actually his cousins' grandpa but he's ours too!). I'll do a separate post on good gifts for little ones, and I'll just be excluding the teenagers also since all they want are gift cards and money (am I right, or am I right?).
Here we go...
I think Etsy is a great place to search for personalized or meaningful gifts - here are a few I'd consider for my Texas, Star Wars, beard-loving husband:
Pottery Barn Collegiate, MLB and NFL Glassware (upward from $20)
For guys who might love their sports teams more than you - just on game days!
(And no UT ones, Longhorn fans - thank Texas' strict logo usage for that one!)
Pottery Barn Leather Catch-All ($30)
This is great for the men who seem to lose their keys, phone and wallet all over the house.
Whiskey Stones ($20)
The nifty little stones won't water down your favorite guy's favorite drink.
itap iPhone Gloves ($20)
These gloves still work on the touchscreen of iPhones, iPads or iPods, though many different varieties are available.
Pinhole Press Hanging Wall Calendar ($30)
The benefit to having a child? Grandparents love getting pictures as gifts! I have ordered and received one and I love it so much. Great quality and great price, and it's fun to customize with your own pictures.
Friday Night Lights: The Complete Series DVDs ($75)
I suppose any good Southern, football-loving gent should see this show! (And bonus: I want to watch it also!)
Books are often a fail-safe gift for the dads. A couple of note this season:
Steve Jobs
The Man in the Rockefeller Suit: The Astonishing Rise and Spectacular Fall of a Serial Imposter
Mophie Keychain iPhone Charger ($35)
Perfect for your frequent traveler!
Bacon Marmalade ($9/jar)
Made in Brooklyn (by a former Houstonian!), what guy wouldn't want spreadable bacon?
Williams-Sonoma Peppermint Bark ($27)
When in doubt - always go for the bark.
Lightspeaker System - Wireless Speaker with LED Light (price varies)
For the guy who needs a party to-go!
Leather "Book" iPhone Case + Wallet ($60)
I actually got this for Jeremy for his birthday and he loves it! (And he never loves gifts.)
Lego Architecture Series (price varies per piece)
A grown-up way to revisit their childhood.
An ode to Chicago...
An ode to New York...
And an ode to Frank Lloyd Wright...
Literary iPhone Cases ($35)
For your very own Nick Carraway or Holden Caulfield
Wood iPhone Alarm Clock Display ($39.50)
For the classic + modern guy on your list!
Another cool option from Crate and Barrel ($60)...
OCD Cutting Board ($25)
Two boys on my list happen to have slightly OCD qualities... not naming names.
