What is SHH up to at 6 months?
---
Eating: Thankfully, we have gotten back on a schedule since starting fruits & veggies. I needed this! He's eaten carrots, sweet potatoes, squash, green beans, sweet peas, prunes, peaches, apples, bananas and pears. He will eat them all, with the green veggies being his least favorite and pears, sweet potatoes and squash are favorites. He went through a phase of not wanting cereal anymore after tasting way yummier fruits, but now I'm mixing pears, apples or bananas with rice cereal and he's eating it again twice a day. Makes for a better night of sleep also! We tried switching to a different (i.e. cheaper) formula, but failed miserably - one of my worst parenting days to date. Needless to say, we're back on the alimentum and we're both happy with it! :) Each day Sawyer typically has cereal with fruit and a bottle for breakfast, fruit or veggie and a bottle for lunch, a mid-afternoon snack bottle, fruit or veggie and a bottle for dinner, and cereal with fruit and a night-night bottle right before bedtime. That's about 5 6.5 ounce bottles per day. Our pediatrician gave us the go-ahead to try meats (gross!) and the stage 2 foods, so I'm excited about some new flavors!

Sleeping: We've made some positive strides in this area as well. Sawyer has always been a good sleeper, and was sleeping mostly through the night at 7 weeks old. When he stopped liking rice cereal I noticed he was also up more, sometimes twice, during the night and some nights we'd have to give him a bottle just to get him back down. And now that he's back to liking cereal again, I have noticed he's much better at sleeping through the whole night. A big deal for me this month, specifically in the last 1-2 weeks, has been putting him down when I know he's tired but not waiting for him to sleep and not stressing if he cries either. He's still not a big napper - we get 30-45 minutes between each bottle, but letting him "cry it out" as needed does wonders for my sanity during the week. I know he's sleepy, so he'll cry for 5 minutes tops and fall right asleep. I watch him on my video monitor to make sure he goes down. It's really made a world of difference for how I feel during the week! We both know what to expect and we're both okay with it. Another new development is Sawyer is now only a tummy-sleeper! This scares Jeremy to death, but he sleeps well so I'm not complaining. He slowly started shifting to sleeping on his side, then a couple weeks ago made the move to tummy completely. A drawback to the tummy sleeping and sleeping well through the night is he is soaking wet many mornings! We use Pampers nighttime diapers, and he does fine in his Pampers during the day, so I guess we need to start test driving some new nighttime diapers. For a little boy who HATES being in a wet diaper during the day, I'm shocked at how in sleeps in puddles of pee these days.
---
Diapers: He's in Pampers size 2-3 or 3 and size 3 nighttime diapers, but I guess the nighttime ones will be changing soon!
---
Clothes: Same as last month - 9-month pj's and 6-12 month clothes.
---
New tricks: Sitting up (still supported). Rolling, rolling and rolling some more. Diaper changes are becoming a chore! Playing more with toys. Getting close to holding his own bottle. Laughing! Becoming very, very interested in what we're eating or drinking. I'm worried tantrums are not far from happening when he can't have what we have. Starting to get the idea on crawling - we're not there yet, but he's working hard at holding himself up and wiggling backwards! Chewing on everything - toys, clothes, hair, fingers (his and ours), toes, bibs. No teeth yet, but we love to chew!
---
Favorites: Dixie, playing in his exersaucer, new toys, rolling around, being tickled, being outside, singing his songs, eating, pulling hair, his lamb & beaver toys, my red hair dryer, anything red, baths.
---
Update on Mullet Watch 2010: It's blended in with the rest of his hair! The darkness is gone and it's just blended in to the rest of his baby blonde hair. It makes me a little sad that that piece of my baby is gone since he's had it from the very beginning!
Sawyer is such a good baby. I can't say it enough! He's very easygoing and happy, and if he's upset it's usually easy enough to fix whatever needs fixing. His smiles and laughs are just the best things in the world - we live for those little dimples! We had a fun weekend with family here (on which I'll blog later), and he was amazing Saturday night - we went to a late dinner at Hyde Park Grill around 8pm and he was completely happy, giddy even, to be there with us. He laughed and smiled and happily sat in my lap and then happily sat in his car seat at the table while I ate. We were out until almost 11pm, and he finally fell asleep in the car at 10:30pm. I was so worried about going out to eat but he made it so easy and fun for everyone - he just knows when he needs to be on his best behavior!
We went to our new Austin pediatrician for his check-up - I love love loved our Houston doctor, so I knew my standards were pretty high for his next pediatrician. She's no Dr. Ho but she is very nice, so I think we'll be happy enough there. He got 3 shots, including the flu shot, and one oral vaccine. Poor thing was NOT happy with the shots and he got so mad he stopped breathing for a second before he started again and the screams came out! His 6 month stats are:
Weight: 17lbs 14.5oz (75%)
Height: 26.5 inches (50%)
Head: 43.5 cm (50%)
Happy Half-Birthday, Baby Boy!

Sawyer is precious! I wish ya'll weren't so far so they could play. Luke has both the dino outfit and the my aunt rocks onesie too - how funny! I finally just had to give in to changing Luke's diaper at the first morning feeding to avoid the wet sheets and clothes. I can't seem to find one that can handle a tummy sleeping boy through the night. Let me know if you find the secret!
