We had a long, fun weekend of celebrating! Friday we celebrated my dad's birthday, Saturday we had Sawyer's party, Sunday we had a birthday cupcake - just the 3 of us, and today we took cupcakes to Sawyer's school so he could celebrate with his friends and teachers.
He loves the Happy Birthday song (and sings the sweetest rendition of it!), but when we got him out of bed this morning and told him he was two, he told us "No two. No Happy Birthday." A very two-year-old response.
Sawyer is truly the light of our lives. Almost every single night Jeremy and I say to each other, we have the best baby in the world. He makes our lives so much fun, gives us so much laughter, makes us so proud daily of how sweet and sensitive and caring he is. I could never have imagined loving being a mother this much, and Sawyer just makes it easy.
A little bit about Sawyer at age 2...
Eating: Sawyer is a great eater. He loves fruits and veggies and will eat almost anything we put on his plate. His typical meals are hot dogs, chicken nuggets, meatballs, turkey sandwiches and peanut butter sandwiches. He loves dipping sauces - ketchup, honey mustard, bbq sauce, pasta sauce. For breakfast he enjoys granola bars, waffles, pancakes, kolaches, sausage, or oatmeal. He'll try lots of stuff on our plates and he's easy to take out to restaurants (from a food standpoint) in that it's easy to order for him and he'll probably eat well enough. For a long time we didn't think he cared for sweets (like his dad), but lately he loves ice cream, M&M's, cupcakes, and anything chocolate. (I gave him a cup of pomegranate cranberry juice and he said, "Chocolate? Mmmmm." because of the color.) He's a very balanced, non-picky eater and I am so thankful for that!
Schedule: I guess stuff like this doesn't really matter now, but we both like keeping to a schedule. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays he goes to school from about 8:30am to 5:45pm. He eats a snack mid-morning, eats lunch at 11:30, naps from 12:30-2:30, and then at home we eat dinner about 6:30 and he's in bed by 8pm. Tuesdays he goes to Lolly's house and Thursdays he goes to Mimi's house, and they stick to a similar schedule as school. Sawyer knows his routine and enjoys each place he goes, though he's always especially excited to see Lolly and Mimi! On the weekends we keep to a similar schedule as well. It's easy to change things up for special plans and Sawyer does well with moving the nap up or back, and with a later bedtime if needed, but I like it better when we're working on a normal schedule.
Sleeping: Just like eating, Sawyer is the best sleeper ever. I'm not trying to brag, because I didn't do a thing to make him this way - he just is. This obviously makes all of us very happy! Sawyer goes to bed by 8pm without a fuss - we play, read books, sing songs, say prayers and then in bed he goes. Sometimes he'll roll around and sing and play in bed, but he never fusses. He wakes up around 7:45am (usually later on the weekends because we're not up and getting ready for work). He typically naps for two hours in the afternoon, though at Mimi's she somehow gets three hour naps!
Diapers: Size 5 Pampers Cruisers. We tried a pack of Luvs and they were okay - not horrible and much cheaper, but not great enough to make a permanent switch. Sawyer shows little to no interest in the potty right now, so I'm not rushing anything on that end.
Clothes: Sawyer is wearing a 2T these days (3T in Target stuff), and size 8 shoes.
Sickness: Thanks to his tubes from last fall, Sawyer has barely had a runny nose! A yucky cold has run through almost everyone in our family since the winter, but luckily Sawyer hasn't been affected. It has been so, so, so nice to not deal with ear infections in the last 5 months!
Loves: Oh, he loves so much right now! Pirates, Toy Story, Cars (the movie), cars, trucks, trains, planes, helicopters, animals - especially dogs (he has no fear!), bubbles, ice cream, having daddy throw him in the air, going on walks, playing outside, playing catch or basketball, Gymboree at school on Fridays, singing songs before bed (he can sing Jack and Jill, Row Row Row Your Boat, Twinkle Twinkle and several other songs along with me - it's hilarious!), balloons, his family, pillows and playing in our bed, jumping, playing with daddy before bedtime, talking to Uncle Josh and Pops on the phone.
Sawyer Sayings:
I wanted to write down some funny things he says right now - I don't want to forget these!
"I can't believe it!"
"Pirates! Arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr! Ahoy mameys (mateys)!"
(He just says this all the time right now - he thinks about pirates a lot, I guess!)
"Catch!"
(when he throws a ball)
"Kachow!"
(Lightening McQueen, from Cars)
"A beyon!"
(as in, "To infinity and beyond!", Buzz Lightyear, from Toy Story)
"You okay?"
(he says this anytime anyone trips/falls, himself included - might be my favorite thing he says!)
Sometimes when he's resisting bedtime a little, I'll tell him Daddy went night night, now it's time for Sawyer to go night night so Mommy can go night night, and then he likes to go through a list of everyone who is going night night. It has included Lolly, Pops, Mr. Darcy, Dixie, Mimi, Jim, Tyler, Geeps, Uncle Josh, Aunt Jamie, baby Lauren (his cousin, due April 10), friends, cars, trucks, balloons, Emmy and Debra (girls from school), Foofa and Toodee (characters from Yo Gabba Gabba), and various stuffed animals.
He loves the book Moo, Baa, La La La right now and when he asks us to read it, he runs all the words together so it sounds like "mooooooobaaaaaaaaLALAAAAAAAAA."
When he's hungry he'll ask for lunch, regardless of time of day. One morning I even made him a sandwich for breakfast by request.
"Where's it go?"
"It's hiding." (if he can't find something!)
"Der is!"
"Dis way."
"Dat way."
If he wants you to chase him, he'll run around the house saying "Imma gitchou!"
He's mixing up pronouns a lot, which makes for a very cute "Hold you?" when he wants to be held.
Sometimes says please without being prompted, and it's the sweetest thing ever.
His little mind absolutely cracks me up - the things he thinks about and says, and then ideas he can connect and figure out. So smart. So funny.
{Edited to Add:}
Sawyer went for his two-year checkup the week after his birthday and his stats were:
Weight = 27 lbs, 5 ounces
Height = 33 inches
And I guess at two, he's too big for percentiles anymore because they didn't give me those!
Happy 2nd Birthday to the Best Baby Ever, Sawyer Henry!

Yay! Now its about to get really fun. Happy birthday sweet Sawyer!
